Two hurt in shooting as college forced to evacuate students with man arrested

Two people have been injured after shots were fired outside a college in Sussex.

Staff and students were evacuated from Crawley College shortly after 3pm this afternoon.

Police arrived at the scene at around 3.20pm following reports of gunshots, Surrey Live reported.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was sent to the scene, where a man was detained.

A Sussex Police tweeted: “We have responded to reports of gunshot fire near Crawley College.

“One man has been detained at the scene. Staff and students are being evacuated from the college.

“Two people have suffered injuries, but these are not believed to be serious. Please stay away from the area.”

A police spokesperson said earlier: “We are aware of and are responding to reports of an incident in College Road, Crawley.

“Please stay away from the area until further notice. We will provide more information as soon as we can, here.”
