Dad’s heartbreaking last words to partner who woke up and found him dead in bed

A heartbroken mum woke to find her partner dead next to her in bed just hours after he spoke his last words, telling her “I love you”.

Amelia Louise Townson, 29, said those words from Damien Jones, 30, will stay with her “forever”, and she has been left so traumatised that she doesn’t feel like getting out of bed in the morning.

After going to sleep as normal, Amelia turned over to see Damien “blue in the face” and desperately carried out CPR on the morning of May 11.

Their children – David-Lloyd, five, and Esme-Rose, three – watched in horror as Amelia tried to save Damien in the couple’s bedroom.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Wrexham, Wales, but the dad-of-two was pronounced dead.

Almost two weeks on, Amelia remains devastated and is trying to stay strong for her children.

She said of her partner: “His last words he spoke to me were ‘I love you’ at 1.30am on Tuesday – they will stay with me forever.

“I just feel numb at the moment, it doesn’t seem real.

“I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning but I have our two children who depend on me.

“I need to stay strong for them.”

Amelia said the family is now waiting on the outcome of post-mortem examination to find the cause of Damien’s death.

Epilepsy sufferer Damien had gone to A&E at Wrexham Maelor Hospital just days earlier with breathing difficulties.

He had a negative Covid test and the issues were put down to muscle soreness.

Amelia said: “He just had the biggest heart and was so bubbly and laid back.

“He was an absolutely wonderful dad, especially to David-Lloyd who’s autistic – Damien was his hero, their bond was so special.”

A GoFundMe page was set up by family friend Samantha Davies to support the family to help with the funeral costs, including a white horse and carriage.

Amelia said previously: “Damien was loved by so many people, and his heart had room for everyone.

“My friend Samantha started the fundraiser and I can’t thank everyone enough for their donations and messages they’ve sent me over the past few days.

“David-Lloyd and Esme-Rose are all I have left of him and the fundraiser will ensure Damien gets the send of that he fully deserves.”

The GoFundMe has so far raised more than 2,300.

Damien’s family, friends and workmates have already gathered for a balloon release in his memory.

Amelia added: “Me and the kids said, ‘Rest in peace, we love you Daddy’, then my little boy let the balloons off.”
